Ordered/Disordered Structures of Water at Solid/Liquid Interfaces

چکیده

Experiments and theory have revealed versatile possible phases for adsorbed confined water on two-dimensional solid surfaces, which are closely related to the aspects of various phenomena in physics, chemistry, biology, tribology. In this review, we summarize our recent works showing that different with disordered ordered structures can greatly affect surface wetting behavior, dielectric properties, frictions. This includes phase structure induces an unexpected phenomenon, “ordered monolayer does not completely wet water”, at T = 300 K model’s some real, material, together anomalous low properties due water.

Water at Interfaces.

The interfaces of neat water and aqueous solutions play a prominent role in many technological processes and in the environment. Examples of aqueous interfaces are ultrathin water films that cover most hydrophilic surfaces under ambient relative humidities, the liquid/solid interface which drives many electrochemical reactions, and the liquid/vapor interface, which governs the uptake and releas...

Water at biomolecular binding interfaces.

Water molecules are often found at the binding interface of biomolecular complexes mediating the interaction between polar groups via hydrogen bonds, or simply filling space providing van der Waals interactions. Recent studies have demonstrated the importance of taking such water molecules into account in docking and binding affinity prediction. Here, we review the recent experimental and theor...

Assembling structures and dynamics properties of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) at water-titanium oxide interfaces.

The surface-associated structures and growth modes of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) at water-rutile TiO2 interfaces were defined by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The results showed that a compact PFOS layer was generated at the rutile surfaces, and the assembling structures and dynamic profiles were crystal-face-dependent. PFOS molecules were attached to the (110) and (001) surfaces m...

Trapping and assembly of living colloids at water-water interfaces.

We study the assembly of inert and living colloids in a two-phase water-water system that provides an environment that can sustain bacteria, providing a new structure with rich potential to confine and structure microbial communities. The water-water system, formed via phase separation of a casein and xanthan mixture, forms a 3-D structure of coexisting casein-rich and xanthan-rich phases. Fluo...

Solvent structures of mixed water/acetonitrile mixtures at chromatographic interfaces from computer simulations.

Atomistic simulations are used to characterize the molecular dynamics (MD) of alkyl chains with different functionalizations in different water/acetonitrile mixtures (80/20 and 50/50). Starting from fully equilibrated solvent systems (flat density profile for both components), microheterogeneous structuring of the solvent in the chromatographic system is found for both mixtures. Depending on th...
